Five Fandom Friday: Favorite Fictional Dads

Favorite Fictional Dads...THERE ARE SO MANY, but here's who I've narrowed it down to:

1. Andy Taylor (The Andy Griffith Show)


Good ol' Andy. I grew up watching this show and seeing how this Dad juggled family time with running the town jail. A single father who raised his son to be a respectful man, and a guy that earned that same respect by putting others first.

2. Atticus Finch (To Kill A Mockingbird)


There's so much about Atticus that reminds me of my father. Most of all, that he never bends his beliefs when people oppose him. How he never discriminates the people around him.

3. Harry Morgan (Dexter)


Harry accepts the dark side of Dexter and helps him work through these emotions. I adore seeing a father figure on television that doesn't treat their children like foreign matter.

4. Bobby Singer


Let's go on a hunting trip boys! I know that Bobby isn't a father (though could have been as speculated by many of us in the fandom), but /he was a father to Sam and Dean. Teaching them to function in the chaos around them. A tough man with thick skin, but a heart bigger than most men in the supernatural field.

5. Henry Spencer


Finally, Henry Spencer, This dad reminds me of Harry Morgan but with a son whose life revolves around fanatics. He supports his son but makes sure his motives are in the right place, All survival skills aside, his genuine concern for his child, even in retirement, warms my heart.

Thank a man in your life that has helped you make it through various situations, whether it be through mental, physical, or emotional support.

Book Review- The Nerdist Way: How to Reach the Next Level (In Real Life)

Try to ignore Castiel creeping in the back...that sneaky little angel. I fished up this fantastic book today and decided to review it ASAP because many of you may like it as well.

A self-help book geared toward the nerd brain. Compartmentalizing, blowing things up bigger than reality, obsessing over things, long hours lost, and fun times are literally written all over these pages.

I went into this novel blind. I would have realized that it was in fact a self-help book for nerds if I would have looked a little closer, but this oblivion was a blessing in disguise. It turned out to be just what I needed having recently graduated from high school, reading this was a great passage into the weird buffer that ends with adulthood. So nerds around, pick up this book and share in the fun with me!

Five Fandom Friday: 5 Fictional Characters You Most Identify With

ohhhhh yessss I'm excited for this one!

  1. Sam Winchester (Supernatural):

Though I see parts of my personality in both of the boys, I definitely identify with Sam more. He's a self-sacrificial person, making his will to protect his family at all costs. Book smart. Constantly craving new information. Mostly non-confrontational. Slightly awkward. Constantly wanting to please others and that causes him to put himself last most times. But when he has the push from Dean, he proves his skills aren't useless. I, like Sam, find my confidence boosted when I know others are happy.

2. Donna Pinciotti (That 70's Show):

That sums me up haha. This flannel-sporting lady is me both outwardly and verbally. Outwardly because I'm not one to dress up, and on the rare occasions that I do, I feel uncomfortable. I connect with Donna's constant pursuit of her passions and never letting people talk her down from things not many support. Verbally I tell it like it is to the people I love. Jokes and sarcasm are second nature to me.

3. Rupert Giles (Buffy the Vampire Slayer):

This is a man that surrounds himself in books, drinks his tea, and, oh yeah, TAKES THINGS SERIOUSLY. Giles is constantly disregarded when it comes to his warnings given to the Slayer. I feel linked to his ability to devote all attention to the completion of tasks to satisfy others. When it comes to personal tasks, I tend to set them aside. Also, his subtle witty remarks that fall to the wayside. I'm thinking there's a pattern here.,,

4. Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins):

Amen sister! I always try to find joy in the things I do, and if there is none why am I doing it? Sounds harsh but I can find fun in difficult tasks if I know someone will find happiness with the end result. If it's all doom'n'gloom it's a waste of effort. Her tact and polite personality are also social skills I uphold.

5. Charlie Bradbury (Supernatural):

This is an obvious one. Constant references to fictional characters, excitement when involved with seemingly adventurous things, and untapped knowledge that's waiting to spew out. This girl is stronger than she thinks.

Well this made me feel lame

      I thought it would be a great idea to mark all of the books I haven't read yet with little orange stickers...I had more unread books than I suspected. Now it is my quest to finish a majority of these books before I move on. That means I'm on a library ban for a little while, but it'll be satisfying to see the threatening orange stickers dwindle.

                              Off to read more, and Percy Jackson review will be coming soon!

Supernatural Season 10 Finale

So I finally calmed down enough to post the FEELS that happened last Wednesday. "My Brother's Keeper" was genius. To anyone that has taken a break or found it hard to push through season 9/half-way through season 10...please just continue. It was emotionally satisfying and FULL of Character development.

SPOILERSSSSSS BELOW!!!!!

I do realize that I have also haven't posted since before a certain charming geek girl passed. RIP Charlie I loved her beautiful madness and I will miss the constant verbal references to other things I love. Charlie was a character that I wish would have had more time on the show, but each spot she had was gold. Thanks again Felicia Day for portraying the beloved character, you rock!

I really enjoyed the Styne family, despite their fatal decision to kill Charlie. They were almost like the Leviathan in the sense that they killed (mostly) for survival. Their back story was fascinating, and I like the twist that Mary Shelly came to their house, saw the horror, and wrote a book that no one believed. They were such an interesting group and a great addition to the last half of this season. Shout out to Eldon Styne and his dapper fashion sense.

Now to the mind-blowing Finale. Dean just kills all of the people. Angry Dean is a favorite of mine, not gonna lie. Then we have the Crowley/ Rowena confrontation. Now I do wish that it would have gone down different, I'm not a big fan of her and what happened to demon Crowley?? I want his eyes to glow red again like in the previous episode :( I'd say that was my only disappointment with this episode. Then I cried like a child when Death died. Dean, why?!?! I do understand why but I just like to question motives for the sake of being a fangirl. Death was also one of my long-time favorites on the show. AND THEN WE HAVE THE LIFE THREATENING BEAUTY THAT IS THE DARKNESS.

My friends...oh my friends. I am in literal awe of how disturbingly beautiful the darkness is. The whole idea that God locked up the darkness to create the world. That the Mark of Cain was the KEY to locking/unlocking said darkness. That Lucifer was given said key and THAT is what corrupted his senses and lead him to jealousy, falling away from God, and being cast from Heaven. Finally giving Cain the mark to bear for spilling the first blood to show all the crime he committed. That right there is written genius. GAH I don't think I could love these writers more. They have found a way to write in these Biblical stories without blaspheming any of it.

Then the darkness strikes and rises out of the ground pillowing out in a black mass to slowly cover the earth. Season 11, here we come! I am BEYOND stoked for season 11, and if this is it, I feel that it will be the most satisfying series conclusion I've ever witnessed.

Blowing minds further: Let's just connect these happenings to previous encounters shall we

this was Michael possessing John Winchester's vessel telling Dean that he could have possessed anyone in their family line, further emphasising the fact that everything that is happening to Dean s.10 was meant to be and there's not a thing that he could do remove himself from this destiny.

and here we have Lucifer using Sam's vessel to let Dean know they have a plan for him. Something that won't change. I know I know, this conversation involved convincing Dean to give himself to Michael for a vessel but you know how sneaky those writers are. And guess what season this is from...season 5.

If Death is dead, can anyone die? Who will collect the souls?

Time for a Book Review!

Today I am here to tell you about The Accident written by Chris Pavone. I received this novel through the Blogging For Books program for an honest review:

In short, this novel follows the character Isabel Reed who finds a manuscript full of secrets that could potentially destroy many of the people holding high authority positions in our government. Pavone also writes in short chapters about each individual involved with this situation, and how they are trying to stop or encourage the publication of this novel.

Now for the opinions. 

Books can be dangerous and used as weapons, don't doubt the power of a good book. 

The cover is beautiful, very Sherlock-esque and it feels nice. I like the colors and the simplicity. There lettering doesn't distract the eye, and adds a seriousness to be expected within the pages. 

This book is fast paced once you get into it, and I believe I particularly enjoyed it because of how many people were involved in the danger surrounding the manuscript. I think that this novel may be difficult for some because of that reason, especially if they aren't used to confusing plots. If you watch shows like Game of Thrones, or Criminal Minds it will be fairly easy to follow in that sense. 

I also enjoyed the challenge that came along with paying attention to details, with me being fresh out of school I pick up on these sneaky bits and get all happy inside. Chris Pavone did a marvelous job, and I will surely pick up another one of his novels in the future.

Overall: 4 out of 5 stars!
